Lorna Bailey Large Ceramic Cat Figurine, Old Ellgreave Pottery
Description
A large, hand-painted ceramic figural sculpture of a stylized cat, consistent with the aesthetic of Lorna Bailey designs produced at Old Ellgreave Pottery. The sculpture depicts a black and white tuxedo cat with exaggerated, expressive features and large yellow eyes, crouched while playing with a bright blue ball of yarn. The piece is finished with a high-gloss glaze. The underside of the glazed ceramic base features a central ventilation hole and multiple identifying marks. These include a circular stamp reading “Old Ellgreave Pottery Made in England” and a handwritten signature in black script that appears to read “Fiona Bailey W5.” A small white sticker marked “8173” is affixed to the cat’s right flank. The piece is likely dating to the mid-to-late 20th century.
