Lot 53:
A Georgian Mahogany Slant-Front Bureau
Description
A traditional Georgian slant-front bureau, likely dating to the 18th century, constructed of dark-stained wood, consistent with mahogany. The piece features a hinged writing surface (fall front) secured by a central keyhole. Below the fall front are three full-width drawers. The drawers are fitted with matching oval brass escutcheons and ring pull hardware, totaling six pulls. The structure rests on bracket-style feet. Visible markings include two affixed auction tags near the fall front keyhole, one clearly identifying the piece as SHIPLEY’S AUCTIONEERS / LOT / 33. The interior writing compartment, though not fully visible, is typical of bureau construction and would traditionally contain pigeonholes and small drawers.
