A Collection of 9 Antique and Vintage Boxes Including a Victorian Burr Walnut Writing Slope
Description
A collection of nine mixed antique and vintage boxes, caskets, and miniature trunks spanning various styles and periods. The collection is anchored by a large rectangular wooden box, consistent with a Victorian-era brass-bounded writing slope, likely constructed of burr walnut or figured wood. This primary box features a keyhole escutcheon and a white inventory sticker displaying the number 6192. Resting atop this box is a smaller, domed casket finished in faux tortoiseshell material accented with brass banding. Positioned behind is a long, flat rectangular box covered in worn blue/grey textile, decorated with ornate gilt metal filigree corner and central mounts. The foreground includes a stack of three rectangular wooden boxes, likely nested or puzzle boxes, featuring complex parquetry or marquetry detailing in the style of Japanese Yosegi-zaiku, with a scenic image on the uppermost lid.
