An Italian Neoclassical Revival Alabaster-Style Pedestal Stand
Description
A single decorative pedestal stand executed in the Neoclassical Revival style. The stand is constructed of a light-colored composite material or stone exhibiting natural veining and fissure patterns, intended to mimic travertine or alabaster. The form features a circular base and a flared, circular capital suitable for displaying objects. The central shaft is segmented, featuring a smooth, tapered upper section separated by molded rings from a rusticated (rough-hewn) lower body. An attached decorative element, resembling a bundled quiver or torch, is affixed to the side of the shaft. This decorative element is executed in a cream-colored material with applied gilded accents and twisted rope motifs. Visible markings on the capital include a small alphanumeric sticker (“L23R” or similar) and a larger rectangular auction label reading “Shelby’s Auctioneers lot 18.”
