Antique Ebonized Wood Upright Spinning Wheel (Castle Type)
Description
A single antique upright spinning wheel, often referred to as a Castle or Great Wheel type due to its vertical structure. Constructed entirely of wood and finished in a dark black or ebonized stain. The piece features heavily turned components, including the legs and upright supports, which hold the large spoked drive wheel and the smaller flyer assembly with a visible whorl. The drive band, appearing to be light-colored cord or leather, is present but loose and knotted, draped across the structure. The long, flat wooden component designed for foot operation (the footman or treadle linkage) is detached and lying beneath the main frame. An auction label for “SHELBY’S AUCTIONEERS LOT 149” is affixed to one upright.
