Lot 290:
A Pair of Edward William Wyon Circular Relief Marble Plaques of Children
Description
A pair of circular relief marble plaques attributed to Edward William Wyon, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, presented in a Rococo Revival style. Each rectangular frame is heavily ornamented with gilded scrolling foliage, floral motifs, and shell forms, crafted from carved wood or a gesso-over-wood composite with a metallic finish. The central, oval-shaped reliefs depict compositions of classical putti or cherubs in marble or alabaster: the left plaque shows three figures interacting, one appearing to embrace another, while the right plaque features three putti engaged in play, one seated prominently. No discernible text, signatures, or maker’s marks are visible.
