Description
This rectangular hinged box is crafted from silver, featuring British assay marks on its base including a standard mark, a city mark, a date letter, and a maker’s mark, alongside a stamped number ‘3’ or ‘E’. The lid is engraved with the monogram “BNS” (or “RNS”) above the date “1915,” placing its manufacture in the early 20th century. The interior is lined with a heavily worn, faded, and dusty deep purple velvet, featuring molded depressions suggesting it was designed to hold specific small items, possibly thimbles or stamps. The inner lid is lined with a lighter, also worn, fabric.
