Lot 232:
An English Sterling Silver Small Dish, London, Late 18th/19th Century
Description
A small, round, shallow sterling silver dish featuring a plain rim. It is fully hallmarked with a lion passant indicating sterling silver, a leopard’s head for the London assay office, a crowned head duty mark, and a capital letter ‘T’ contained within a square cartouche, serving as the date letter. An additional, less distinct mark, possibly for the maker, is also present. The presence of the crowned head duty mark indicates a manufacturing date between 1784 and 1890, corresponding to a date letter ‘T’ from 1794/95, 1814/15, 1834/35, 1854/55, or 1874/75.
