A Collection of 19th Century Prattware Pot Lids
Description
A collection of eighteen 19th Century Prattware pot lids. Each circular, lidded ceramic box is adorned with a transfer-printed or hand-painted decorative scene, encompassing genre subjects such as figures in landscapes, various pastoral or narrative compositions, and a prominent portrait of a bullmastiff-type dog. The designs are rendered in a style consistent with 19th-century European aesthetics, possibly Victorian or Rococo Revival. The components are made of glazed earthenware or porcelain. The undersides and interior parts bear various handwritten English notations, which include inventory or lot numbers (e.g., “P 218”, “B 257”, “P 340”, “P 319”, “P 322”, “P 323”) and descriptive titles such as “BELLE VUE”, “TAWDRY PEWTER BASES”, “THE SHEPPERD”, and “THE HUNTERS”.
