A Pair of Vintage African Tribal Hand Carved Ebony Wood Mask and Head
Description
A pair of vintage African tribal hand carved ebony wood objects, comprising an elongated anthropomorphic mask or headdress and a stylized head or bust. Both pieces exhibit a dark, rich patina. The larger mask features a human-like face with pronounced eyes, a slender nose, and a smiling mouth, framed by protruding, somewhat rectangular ear-like elements. Above the face, a distinct elephantine proboscis extends downwards, flanked by two large, flat, ear-like elements that form the upper part of the carving. Textured, stippled carving is present on the neck or chin area and in a band above the brow. The smaller head or bust features a simplified face with incised details suggesting a coiffure or hair on top.
