An 18th Century English Pottery Ale Mug
Description
This ceramic mug or tankard, crafted from a cream-colored earthenware or stoneware, features hand-painted underglaze blue decoration in a traditional, folk-art style. The design includes floral and foliate motifs, dotted borders, and a prominent central cartouche displaying the capital English word “ALE.” It is fitted with a single C-shaped handle. Consistent with 18th-century English pottery, this piece could be classified as Delftware, Creamware, or Pearlware.
