Description
A Liverpool John Pennington Convolvulus Pattern moulded porcelain sauce boat, circa 1775. This handled pouring vessel features blue underglaze decoration on a white body. The design includes oriental-inspired motifs such as a bird (possibly a phoenix) and stylized foliage. The lower body is adorned with a molded relief pattern of acanthus or leaf-like forms, and the vessel rests on a pedestal foot. Indistinct stylized blue markings, possibly hand-painted characters, are visible on the underside of the rim when inverted.
