Description

A pair of ceramic wares attributed to Philip Christian, Liverpool, circa 1765-70. Comprising a coffee cup with an applied handle and a deep, handleless bowl, both decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground. The body of each piece features a relief-molded, fluted or ‘pleat’ pattern, overlaid with cobalt blue floral and foliate motifs in a Chinoiserie style, and a patterned band around the rim. The decoration is further described on an accompanying label as ‘pleat moulding overlaid with outstanding floral surrounding with reserved panels’. The cup’s base is marked ‘H107c’.
