Lot 60:
Royal Doulton Art Nouveau Stoneware Jug
Description
A Royal Doulton Art Nouveau stoneware jug. This decorative ceramic pitcher, or jug, is crafted from glazed stoneware, featuring a globular body, a narrow neck, and a ruffled spout with a single handle. Its design incorporates a deep cobalt blue glaze on the lower body, transitioning to a mottled cream and khaki glaze on the upper portion, with the spout’s interior also in blue. The exterior is adorned with raised relief decoration, including large circular medallions with intricate swirling patterns in a metallic gold or bronze tone, interspersed with smaller light blue and white floral rosettes with raised dots, characteristic of late 19th to early 20th-century decorative pottery. The unglazed base bears an impressed circular mark that includes ‘WESTERWALD’ alongside a stamped ‘A’ and an incised production number ‘3294.’
