Description
A Prattware Pearlware ‘Macaroni’ Tea Caddy and Cover, circa 1790. This ceramic tea caddy features a rectangular body and a removable stopper, decorated with relief figures and hand-painted polychrome enamels in a palette of blues, oranges, greens, and yellows. One main side depicts two gentlemen in “Macaroni” style attire, while the other shows a lady with an elaborate coiffure. Decorative borders of dots and wavy lines adorn the top edges and sides. The base bears a handwritten label stating “PRATTWARE TEA CADY,” “”MACARONI” C.1790,” and “£475 a/f.”
