A Pair of Carved Objects: A Chinese Polychrome Snuff Bottle and a Figural Carving cheroot holder
Description
A Chinese snuff bottle, crafted from a creamy-white natural material, possibly bone or ivory, in a flattened rectangular bottle-form with a narrow neck. One side features a polychrome painted or inlaid depiction of a bird on a flowering branch, while the reverse shows a landscape scene with trees, cliffs, and a boat. Accompanied by a dark, sculptural object, appearing to be carved from aged wood or a dense natural material. This piece is fitted with a brass or bronze band at its wider base. One side is carved to resemble a female torso, presenting breasts and an abdomen, while the opposing side is smoothly tapered.
