Spode Pattern 3420 Cobalt Blue and Gold Hydra Jug, circa 1800-1820
Description
A Spode Pattern 3420 porcelain Hydra Jug, dating to circa 1800-1820. This small, octagonal pitcher features a deep cobalt blue ground extensively gilded on its faceted edges and rim. The elaborate handle is molded in a serpentine or dragon-like form, characteristic of the ‘Hydra’ design. The body is decorated with hand-painted polychrome floral motifs and delicate gold scrollwork. The interior is white. The base bears red hand-painted marks ‘SPODE’ and ‘3420’.
