Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Plate, Tek Sing Cargo, Peony and Butterfly Motif,
Description
A small, round, blue and white porcelain plate, decorated with peony and butterfly motifs. This artifact is part of “THE TREASURE OF TEK SING” cargo, recovered from a Chinese junk that sank in 1822, placing its origin to the early 19th century or prior. Each piece bears an original collection label from Nagels auction house in Stuttgart, where the cargo was sold in November 2000. The reverse features a “NAGEL 0366” paper label and underglaze blue painted markings on the foot rim.
