A Pair of Japanese Satsuma Style Porcelain Vases
Description
A pair of Japanese Satsuma style porcelain vases. Each vase features a classic baluster form with a short flared rim and a footed base. The white glazed ground is elaborately decorated with polychrome overglaze enamels and extensive gilding. A patterned band adorns the upper neck and base, characterized by intricate geometric motifs in gold, green, and reddish-brown. The central body of each vase is embellished with framed cartouches containing detailed genre scenes. The left vase depicts figures, identified as *karako*, alongside cranes amidst flowering plants and trees. The right vase showcases similar *karako* figures interacting with lush flowering branches. These scenes are highlighted with intricate gold detailing, including raised decorative elements. The vases are unsigned.
