A G.W. Lyth, Stockholm Brass Gimbal Compass, First Half 20th Century
Description
A nautical or scientific liquid compass by G.W. Lyth, Stockholm, dating to the first half of the 20th century. The compass is housed within a brass binnacle or casing with a clear glass face, mounted on a dark-finished metal gimbal ring. The outer brass rim is engraved with “G.W. LYTH STOCKHOLM” and “Nº 6970”. The compass card inside also bears “G.W. LYTH STOCKHOLM,” displays cardinal directions (N, E, S, W) and degree markings, and features a central spiral element and a red/orange triangular indicator. A paper tag with “8556” is attached to the side.
