Lot 170:
A Collection of Wedgwood Decorative Wares, including a Wedgwood Halley's Comet Pot and a Jasperware ware Biscuit Barrel
Description
A collection of four distinct decorative and functional items. This group comprises a brown, glazed earthenware lidded jar, likely a tobacco or storage jar, styled as a cylindrical building with molded brickwork and a ribbed, conical roof. Next to it stands a blue ceramic cylindrical biscuit barrel or ice bucket in the Wedgwood Jasperware style, featuring white bas-relief classical figures and a fluted, silver-toned metal lid with a swing handle. In the foreground, a small white ceramic lidded pot is visible, inscribed “WEDGWOOD TO MARK THE RETURN OF HALLEY’S COMET 1986,” decorated with a portrait of a man, presumably Edmund Halley, and surrounded by a partial calendar for that year. Completing the group is an oval white ceramic dish or plate, which features a detailed monochrome transfer print of a fruit still life, including grapes, pears, and citrus.
