A Liverpool Chaffers Sparrow Beak Jug, 'Blue Rock' Pattern, 1758-60
Description
A Liverpool Chaffers sparrow beak jug, ‘Blue Rock’ pattern, dated 1758-60. The small, white-bodied jug is crafted from porcelain or fine earthenware and features polychrome overglaze enamel decoration. The design depicts large pink and smaller orange flowers with green foliage, and blue rockery, all set against a white ground. A red geometric band adorns the rim. The decoration is in the Chinese Export ‘Famille Rose’ style, which was popular for European imitations of the period.
