A 9 Carat Gold and Enamel Leeds and District Billiard League Medal Dated 1921-22
Description
A 9 carat gold and enamel sporting medal awarded for billiards, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1921. The obverse features a central shield-shaped panel finished in deep blue enamel, displaying a Golden Fleece and three five-pointed stars, which are elements derived from the Leeds city coat of arms. The shield is set within an ornate gold frame decorated with scrollwork to the top and bottom and ribbed architectural columns to the sides. The reverse is flat and bears the hand-engraved inscription LEEDS & DISTRICT. / N·P·T / BILLIARD LEAGUE. / 1921-22. / H.JACKSON. The piece is fitted with a soldered suspension loop and a gold split ring. The reverse displays a series of stamps: a rectangular mark containing the characters W.A.M, an anchor symbol, a crown, the numerals 375, and a lowercase w within a square cartouche with clipped corners.
