Mid-20th Century French Louis XVI Style Red Velvet Gossip Bench
Description
A mid-20th century mahogany-finished gossip bench, or telephone seat, designed in the Louis XVI revival style. The piece features an asymmetrical form with a single upholstered seat at one end and an integrated flat wooden table surface at the other. The seat includes a button-tufted backrest with an ornately carved crest rail depicting a central foliate and shell motif. The frame is supported by four cabriole legs. The upholstery consists of a deep red velvet plush fabric, finished with a decorative border of brass-headed upholstery tacks. No manufacturer marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the piece. A small white rectangular lot sticker is present on the integrated wooden table surface.
