A Kaiser Porcelain Floral Wall Charger after Jan Davidsz. de Heem
Description
This West German porcelain wall charger features a central floral still-life arrangement after a painting by the Dutch artist Jan Davidsz. de Heem. The bouquet is depicted against a dark brown ground and is surrounded by a wide border decorated with gilt-toned rococo scrolling foliate motifs. The reverse of the charger bears a blue underglaze mark consisting of a crown above the letters AK, with KAISER and W. GERMANY printed below. Flanking this mark is descriptive text printed in brown script in both German and English: Blumenbukett nach einem Original des holländischen Malers Jan Davidsz. de Heem 1606 – 1683 Dek. 758 / B and Flower Bouquet after an original painting by the Dutch painter Jan David de Heem 1606 – 1683 Dec. 758 B. Two white adhesive stickers are present on the front surface; one is printed with SHELDON AUCTIONEERS LOT 320 and the other is hand-inscribed with 12847. The reverse also features a yellowed rectangular adhesive label inscribed 13-7-80 H.R. JACKSON. A wire hanging attachment is fixed to the foot rim.
