A Scottish Sgian Dubh with Carved Hilt and Thistle Mounts
Description
A Scottish Sgian Dubh comprising a single-edged metal knife and coordinating scabbard. The blade features a scalloped spine and a single fuller. The hilt is constructed from a black material with basket-weave carving, terminating in a metal pommel set with a faceted orange stone. Both the hilt and scabbard are fitted with cast metal mounts depicting thistle motifs, finished with a dark, uniform patina. A white rectangular adhesive label on the scabbard is printed with SHELBYS AUCTION, LOT 259, and the number 0132565091. A second smaller white rectangular adhesive label located at the scabbard throat is marked with the digits 18.52. No maker’s marks, signatures, or hallmarks are visible.
