Description

A collection of British philatelic items housed in a cream ring-bound album, dating from 1979 to 1980. The assortment includes several British Post Office First Day Covers and miniature sheets alongside celebratory cards.

Two First Day Covers feature the theme Sport, each bearing a set of four stamps with denominations of 12p, 13p, 15p, and 17 1/2p. These are cancelled with circular black postmarks reading 10 OCT 1980 LEEDS and feature multicoloured stylized text reading SPORT. They are addressed to Miss S. Player and Mr. P. Player in Leeds.

Two further First Day Covers commemorate Rowland Hill and the Uniform Penny Postage petition, featuring a set of four stamps (10p, 11 1/2p, 13p, 15p) depicting postal history. These are cancelled with circular postmarks reading 22 AUG 1979 SOUTHEND-ON-SEA and are addressed to Cambridge Town P.O., Shoeburyness.

The collection includes two copies of the London 1980 International Stamp Exhibition Second Miniature Sheet. Each sheet contains a block of four stamps (10p, 11 1/2p, 13p, 15p) and bears the printed text London 1980 INTERNATIONAL STAMP EXHIBITION 6-14 MAY 1980 and BRITISH POST OFFICE SECOND MINIATURE SHEET 50p.

Also present are two large illustrative cards for The Year of the Child. One depicts Winnie-the-Pooh and Eeyore with an 11p denomination, and the other shows Alice and the Cheshire Cat from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with a 13p denomination. These bear printed text identifying the characters and the theme. The items are mounted within a ring-bound album using clear protective sleeves and adhesive mounts.
