A Late Victorian Carved Mahogany Rococo Revival Display Cabinet
Description
A mahogany display cabinet of late 19th or early 20th-century construction, designed in the Rococo Revival style. The upper section features a flared cornice with carved foliate scrolls above a single glazed door. The door is decorated with elaborate hand-carved foliate and C-scroll glazing bars, opening to reveal a mirror-backed interior fitted with glass shelves. The lower section comprises a single cupboard door featuring a deeply carved central panel with floral motifs, acanthus scrolls, and a lattice-work ground. The piece is supported on four cabriole legs with carved knees and terminating in scroll feet. The cabinet is finished in a dark mahogany polish and includes a key with a gold-coloured decorative tassel. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on the piece.
