Victorian Inlaid Walnut Octagonal Trumpet Sewing and Games Table
Description
A Victorian walnut trumpet-form sewing and games table featuring marquetry and parquetry decoration. The hinged octagonal top displays a central inlaid checkerboard for chess or draughts, bordered by scrolling foliate marquetry and a geometric inlaid edge. The lid opens on brass hinges to reveal a fitted interior for needlework, lined with purple fabric and decorative paper, containing various vintage sewing notions. The tapering octagonal pedestal column terminates in a carved foliate collar above a circular platform base, supported by three carved scroll feet. A small white adhesive label marked 5276 is present on the interior of the lid. No maker’s marks are visible.
