A Pair of Large Continental Bisque Porcelain Figurines in 18th-Century Dress
Description
A pair of hand-painted bisque porcelain figurines depicting a gentleman and a lady in 18th-century Rococo-style dress. The male figure is portrayed wearing a tricorn hat, a long frock coat over a waistcoat, and breeches. The female figure wears a wide-brimmed hat with floral accents and an elaborate gown with a ruffled collar. Both figures are posed with hands on their hips and stand upon decorative, pierced scrollwork bases. The colour palette consists of soft pastel tones of pale blue, lavender, and cream. The garments and bases are further embellished with raised, slip-trailed white and gold-toned jewelled beadwork. On the unglazed undersides of both bases, there are small marks applied in red pigment, appearing as the numbers 5 and 7. These items are consistent with late 19th or early 20th-century European porcelain production.
Height: 39 cm.
