Lot 42:
After Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899), The Hayfield, a Large Framed Colour Print
Description
A large-scale colour print, likely a photogravure or lithograph, after the original painting by the British artist Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899) titled The Hayfield. The scene depicts a traditional nineteenth-century rural landscape with figures gathering hay in an expansive field. The composition features several figures, including women and children in period dress, engaged in agricultural labour against a backdrop of trees and a distant horizon under a cloudy sky. A monogram is visible in the lower right corner of the print, consistent with Foster’s signature. The work is presented in an ornate, Victorian-style gilded frame with a wide gold-toned mount under glass. No edition numbering or publisher’s marks are visible on the exposed area of the print. A yellow tape measure is positioned to the left of the frame for scale.
Frame: 65cm x 95cm approx.
