A Trio of Victorian Porcelain Christening and Friendship Mugs
Description
A trio of Victorian porcelain presentation mugs, likely English bone china, dating from the mid-to-late 19th century. Each mug is of cylindrical form with a single loop handle and gilt-edged rim. The first mug features a hand-painted landscape vignette above a gilt inscription for Rebecca Fielden, dated Novr 1st 1868 and April 12 1872, within gilt scrollwork. The second mug is decorated with a vertical geometric band in green, black, and gilt, alongside a gilt inscription for Emily Kate Watkins, dated 1873. The third mug is decorated with a hand-painted floral and rustic trellis design and a gilt inscription reading Gertie. These items are characteristic of commemorative porcelain produced in the Staffordshire potteries for personal milestones such as births or christenings. No factory marks are present.
