Lot 388:
A mid-century modern style sommerso art glass bowl in the manner of Mdina or Murano
Description
This item is a heavy, thick-walled art glass bowl or large paperweight, featuring a central core of vibrant blue encased within a clear glass body. The piece is decorated with internal swirling inclusions of pale lime-yellow and wisps of opaque white. The form is rounded with a slightly recessed top, produced using hand-blown art glass techniques with internal colour layering. The style and colour palette are characteristic of mid-century modern glass, specifically resembling the sommerso technique associated with Murano or the early output of Mdina Glass in Malta. A small white rectangular adhesive label is present on the interior wall, bearing the handwritten characters 7622, which appears to be a temporary inventory or lot number. No other maker’s marks, factory signatures, or acid-etched marks are visible on the base or body.
Dimensions: Approximately 11.5 cm in diameter.
