Description

A pair of late 19th-century English porcelain commemorative mugs, characteristic of production from the Staffordshire region. Each piece is of cylindrical form with a single loop handle and a flared, stepped foot. The first mug features a hand-painted floral spray depicting a pink rose, yellow primrose, and blue forget-me-nots, with the inscription George Daniel Fenwick Born Feby 4th 1877 in black cursive script. This mug is finished with a green-painted line at the rim and base, and a golden-yellow lustre glaze on the foot. The second mug is inscribed Mary Ann Crowther Born December 30th 1872 in gilded and brown cursive script within gilded scrollwork borders, accented with gold banding to the rim and base. A small adhesive label with the number 9627 is present on the body of the second mug. No maker marks are visible on either item.
