Description

A pair of 19th-century English porcelain presentation mugs, of a type frequently identified as christening or friendship mugs. Each vessel is of cylindrical form, featuring a slightly flared pedestal base and a scrolled loop handle with gilded highlights. The exteriors are decorated with hand-painted polychrome floral sprays, including roses, forget-me-nots, and other wildflower motifs. The front of each mug bears a centrally positioned inscription in gilded script. The first mug is inscribed Anne Moore 1831. The second mug is inscribed Martha Fletcher April 4th 1841. Both items are finished with gilded rims and decorative gilded flourishes. No maker marks are visible on the underside of the bases.
