Victorian Opalescent and Vaseline Glass Four-Trumpet Epergne
Description
A Victorian four-trumpet glass epergne, hand-blown with a pale yellow-green uranium-tinted glass and milky-white to light-blue opalescence at the ruffled rims. The centrepiece features a tall central trumpet-shaped vase with a crimped rim and applied trailing rigaree decoration. Three clear, twisted-glass scroll arms support three smaller hanging baskets with ruffled rims. All components are set within a large matching bowl with a wide, crimped border. The style and technique are consistent with late 19th-century Stourbridge glasshouses, such as Thomas Webb and Sons or Stevens and Williams. No embossed or etched maker’s marks are visible. A white rectangular adhesive label is present on the central trumpet bearing the handwritten numerals 9627.
