A Pair of Large Cast Metal Marly Horse Sculptures after Guillaume Coustou
Description
A pair of cast metal sculptures, likely bronze or patinated spelter, produced in the style of the Marly Horses after the original marble groups by Guillaume Coustou. Each sculpture depicts a groom restraining a rearing stallion, finished with a deep brown-to-black patina. The figures are mounted onto integral naturalistic, rocky-ground cast bases, which are set upon stepped, oval black-finished plinths. The sculptures feature separate metal reins. No legible maker’s marks, signatures, or foundry stamps are visible on the casts or bases.
Height: 55cm.
