A Trio of S. Fielding and Co. Crown Devon Glazed Earthenware Wash Set Pieces
Description
This trio of glazed earthenware wash set pieces was manufactured by S. Fielding and Co. of Stoke-on-Trent, England, under the Crown Devon brand. The set comprises a large water ewer with a flared spout and scrolling high-set handle, alongside two matching circular basins of varying sizes. The decoration features a Neoclassical pattern executed with transfer-printing and hand-painted enamel highlights, depicting floral sprays of roses, draped swags, and central medallions in shades of blue, red, and ochre. The rims and handles are finished with heavy gilding. The underside of the base bears a printed mark in brown ink featuring a crown device, flanked by the text S.F. and Co., STOKE-ON-TRENT, ENGLAND, CROWN DEVON, and RD NO 5547–. A handwritten number 0465 in black ink is also present, along with an impressed W.
