Description

A comprehensive stoneware dinner and tea service manufactured by Denby, England, in the Cotswold pattern. This service is a classic example of mid-to-late 20th-century British stoneware design. The pieces are decorated with transfer-printed stylized floral and leaf motifs in shades of brown and green against a speckled cream ground. Certain components, including the saucers, lids, and the exteriors of specific bowls, feature a contrasting solid dark brown glaze. The collection includes a variety of forms such as tea and coffee cups, a pair of large water or milk jugs, an assortment of dinner, side, and tea plates, numerous soup and cereal bowls, a lidded tureen, open vegetable dishes, and a gravy boat on a fixed stand. Matching saucers, creamers, and open sugar bowls are also present. The base of the pieces bears the blue circular Denby Stoneware mark with the vertical inscription Made in England.
