Lot 231:
A Collection of Cut and Pressed Glassware, including a 1937 Coronation Plate and Three Decanters
Description
This collection comprises an assortment of cut lead crystal and pressed glassware. The lot features three decanters with various cut patterns, including diamond and fan motifs, each fitted with a facet-cut globular stopper and fluted neck. The drinking suite includes several wine glasses, sherry glasses, and tumblers, many of which display traditional diamond-cut patterns, notched stems, and star-cut bases. A notable inclusion is a circular pressed glass plate embossed with the text KING GEORGE VI CORONATION 1937. Decorative items include a small amber-coloured glass cream jug and several bowls and dishes with varied pressed and cut patterns. The clarity and refractive quality of the larger pieces suggest a high lead content consistent with lead crystal, while the smaller items and the commemorative plate are of pressed glass construction. The items are in the style of mid-20th-century British crystal houses.
