Lot 46:
A pair of Victorian English cranberry glass vessels comprising a pitcher and a ruffled vase
Description
A fine pair of late 19th-century Victorian cranberry glass vessels, likely of English manufacture. The set includes a water jug and a small vase, both hand-blown in a deep, vibrant pink hue. Each piece exhibits a subtle optic-moulded paneled design across the bulbous bodies, enhancing the colouration and light refraction. The jug features a flared rim and a classic applied clear glass handle, while the smaller vessel is finished with a decorative crimped or ruffled rim. This style of glass was highly prized during the Victorian period for its rich colour, achieved through the addition of gold salts to the glass batch. No maker’s marks are present, which is standard for such decorative domestic ware of the era. Pitcher height: approximately 19 cm. Vase height: approximately 13 cm.
Condition report:
Both pieces appear to be in good overall condition, free from any visible chips, cracks, or restorations. There is minor shelf wear to the bases consistent with age.
