Lot 38:
A Collection of Nine Ceramic Toby and Character Jugs including Royal Doulton Style Examples
Description
A varied collection of nine ceramic character and Toby jugs, crafted from glazed earthenware with hand-painted polychrome decoration. The group comprises several traditional full-bodied Toby jugs, depicted as seated figures wearing tri-corn hats and various brightly coloured coats, alongside character-style bust jugs. Notable subjects include a large character jug of a bearded man in a fur-trimmed cap, and smaller figures including Happy John and Falstaff types. The pieces exhibit a high-gloss finish characteristic of mid-20th-century pottery production. The lot includes examples consistent with Royal Doulton designs as well as potential Japanese export wares of the period. Largest jug: 19 cm height. Smallest jug: 9 cm height.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good overall condition. No significant chips, cracks, or restorations are visible upon inspection. Minor surface wear and light crazing consistent with age may be present on some pieces.
