Lot 156:
Royal Crown Derby Old Imari Pattern 1128 Flat Demitasse Cup and Saucer
Description
A fine English bone china demitasse cup and saucer set by Royal Crown Derby, decorated in the celebrated Old Imari pattern, number 1128. The pieces are executed in a traditional palette of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red, further enhanced by heavy hand-applied gilding. The design features an intricate arrangement of alternating panels containing floral sprays and geometric motifs, reflecting the 19th-century Japanese influence on British ceramic design. The undersides of both pieces bear the red Royal Crown Derby factory backstamp and the pattern number 1128. The cup is marked with the Roman numeral date code XLVII for 1984, and the saucer is marked XLIV for 1981. Various hand-painted artist and gilder marks are present on the base of both items. Cup height approximately 5.7 cm. Saucer diameter approximately 11.4 cm.
Condition report:
The set is in very good condition, appearing well-preserved with no visible chips, cracks, or restorations. The hand-applied gilding remains bright and intact with only minimal signs of surface wear consistent with age and light handling.
