Lot 11:
A mid-20th century mahogany revival dressing stool with needlepoint tapestry seat
Description
A 20th-century revival dressing stool of traditional rectangular form, constructed from mahogany-stained hardwood. The piece features four square tapered legs with a subtle out-sweep at the feet, supporting a simple apron and a drop-in seat. The seat is upholstered in a hand-worked needlepoint tapestry featuring a central multi-coloured floral bouquet of roses and mixed blooms within a delicate scrolling border, all set against a cream-coloured ground. The design reflects the influence of late 18th-century English furniture styles. There are no visible maker’s marks or labels. Dimensions: 46cm H x 52cm W x 39cm D.
Condition report:
The stool is structurally sound and fit for purpose. The timber frame shows visible surface wear consistent with age and use, including scuffs, minor indentations, and areas of finish loss to the legs and apron. The needlepoint upholstery remains in good condition with no significant tears or fraying, though it exhibits light surface soiling and age-related toning to the cream ground.
