Mid-Century Modern Oak Chest of Drawers
Description
This mid-20th-century chest of drawers is a characteristic example of the utilitarian Mid-Century Modern style, constructed from solid oak and oak veneers with a warm honey-toned finish. The piece features a simple rectangular carcase housing four full-width drawers, each fitted with two original turned wooden pull knobs. The design emphasises clean lines and functional form, typical of British furniture production during the 1950s and 1960s. The drawers are constructed with period-appropriate machine-cut dovetail joints and secondary timbers. The chest is raised on short, squared legs that are integrated into the side panels. No maker’s labels or stamps are present. Dimensions: 92 cm H x 76 cm W x 43 cm D.
Condition report:
The chest is in sound structural condition. The original finish displays wear consistent with age and domestic use, including visible surface scuffs, minor scratches to the side panels, and light rubbing along the drawer edges. The drawers operate smoothly and the wooden knobs are securely attached. No evidence of woodworm or significant structural repair is visible.
