Description

Kenneth Godden (British, 20th Century). A limited edition colour print on paper, likely a linocut or screenprint, titled Winter of 79 – Bolton Abbey. The work presents a modernist, graphic interpretation of the historic abbey ruins in a winter landscape, characterised by stylised chartreuse trees against a dark, atmospheric background. The composition uses flat planes of colour and bold silhouettes typical of late 20th-century British printmaking. Signed in pencil to the lower right Kenneth Godden 79 and inscribed to the lower left with the title Winter of 79 – Bolton Abbey and the edition number 12/75. The print is housed in a thin gold-toned frame under glass with a wide taupe-coloured mount. 40 x 50 cm.

Condition report:

The paper shows mild age-related toning. There is a significant and visible water stain and tide mark running along the bottom edge of the mount, which may have affected the lower margin of the print itself; however, the visible print surface appears stable. The frame shows light scuffing and the glazing has surface reflections and minor dust. Not examined out of frame.
