Lot 391:
Bandai and Others, Tinplate Ford Ranchero Rollover Car and Hopping Chick, Tin and Plush, circa 1950s-1960s
Description
This lot comprises two vintage toys. The first is a Japanese tinplate lithograph Rollover car, styled after a 1957 Ford Ranchero, likely manufactured by Bandai or a contemporary Japanese firm. It features a red body with a teal roof and a mechanical flipping bar to the rear. The second item is a novelty wind-up hopping chick, constructed with yellow plush fabric over a metal frame with stamped metal feet. Both items are without their original boxes. The car operates via a friction or clockwork mechanism, while the chick includes a separate winding key for its clockwork movement. Circa late 1950s to early 1960s.
Condition report:
The tinplate vehicle is in fair to good condition, displaying significant paint loss and oxidation to the teal roof, with various scuffs and scratches to the red bodywork consistent with age and play. The mechanism is untested. All four rubber tyres and the rollover bar remain intact. The hopping chick is in good condition with minor matting and light soiling to the yellow plush. The metal feet show slight oxidation. The winding key is present, though the mechanism is untested. No original packaging is included for either item.
