Description

This is an extensive collection of vintage ephemera related to card gaming and leisure activities, dating from the late 19th century through to the mid-20th century. The lot includes several boxed games and specialty decks of historical interest. Notable items include two decks of L’Atlantique playing cards featuring iconic Art Deco stylised illustrations of the French ocean liner, housed in a dual-compartment wooden hinged box. The collection also features an Old Original Game of Snap by Jaques and Son, Ltd., 21 Kirby Street, London, in its original heavily aged box. Other items include a Piatnik Animal Families boxed game (No. 277) from Vienna, a mid-century Chad Valley Happy Families set, and a modern Smith-Waite Tarot Centennial Edition based on the 1910 artwork by Pamela Colman Smith. A dominoes set from the early 20th century is included in a long cardboard box depicting a family scene, alongside various loose decks such as one marked Your Servant! and miscellaneous wooden and cylindrical storage cases. Notable publishers include Jaques and Son, Ltd., Piatnik, Chad Valley, and U.S. Games Systems. Dimensions: Overall footprint approximately 60cm x 45cm.

Condition report:

Condition is varied across the collection, consistent with age and regular use. Paper-covered boxes show significant wear, including rubbing, scuffing, and loss to printed labels, most notably on the Snap box. Wooden boxes exhibit light surface scratches and oxidation to metal hardware. Cards and paper items are generally fair to good, with light foxing, edge wear, and occasional soft corners. Minimal significant tearing is present, though some paper tuck boxes have small tears at the flaps. The domino box shows structural wear and corner splits. This is an as-is collection; completeness of individual decks has not been verified.
