Banded Agate Bead Necklace Strand, Victorian Style
Description
This strand comprises twenty-four beads which appear to be banded agate, a variety of chalcedony. The beads exhibit a dark brown to black base colour with distinctive concentric and parallel banding in cream and tan tones. The beads are fashioned into spherical and drum-shaped forms. The item is currently temporarily strung on a white cord and lacks a clasp or any metal findings; therefore, no hallmarks or maker’s marks are present. The design is characteristic of Victorian era Scottish pebble jewellery. Weight and measurements are not available.
Condition report:
The beads are in good condition with minor surface nicks and variations typical of natural chalcedony. The strand is temporary and will require professional restringing and the addition of a clasp.
