A Collection of Mid-Century Japanese Novelty Ceramics and Character Salt and Pepper Shakers
Description
A varied collection of mid-century novelty tablewares and figurines, primarily of Japanese origin. The assortment comprises eight pieces including a pair of anthropomorphic rabbit figures pulling egg-shaped carts, various character-form vessels, and salt and pepper shakers. The items are constructed from molded ceramic with hand-painted overglaze polychrome enamels in a kitsch aesthetic typical of the 1940s to 1960s. Notable pieces include character busts reminiscent of miniature Toby jugs and a Humpty Dumpty style shaker. One rabbit figure retains an original MADE IN JAPAN foil label. The collection reflects the popular export ware produced during the post-war period. Dimensions range approximately from 5 cm to 11 cm in height.
Condition report:
The collection is in generally good vintage condition. There is evidence of minor surface wear and localised losses to the overglaze enamel decoration consistent with age and handling. No significant chips, cracks, or structural repairs are evident upon visual inspection.
